Warm and humid weather, breathtaking landscapes, wild beaches and welcoming people. This is Queensland. We visited this magical place for two holidays seasons in a row. In 2015 we found a place to stay in Sunshine Coast Hinterland that made us fell in love with the area. The experience at Lily View Cooroy was so special that we decided to come back a year later to explore more the surroundings.
The stay was particularly special for me as it reminded my childhood. Back in Brazil, when I was a little girl, I used to visit relatives in the countryside over the Summer holidays. It felt like switching from time lapse to slow motion mode. All of a sudden, the rush was over and we could interact appropriately with people. The busy routine from a big city was given place to a simple and enjoyable life where people had time to look me in the eyes, listen to my stories and tell me theirs. How special is that?
Singing birds and that refreshing early morning instead of São Paulo’s stressful atmosphere was a delight for me. These memories are still alive in my heart and how surprisingly was to find a place 30 years later and 14.000 km away that made me feel that I was in my special place again.
The Space
Lily View Cooroy is an accommodation listed on Airbnb that we chose for our two visits to Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The first time, It felt like home. Our second visit, in 2016, was like visiting dear relatives after a busy and productive year.
The place is simple and cosy. The granny flat has everything we need and even more. Secluded, plenty of storage space, private bathroom, toiletries, a good wi-fi internet, Netflix, and a beautiful backyard. It is perfect do relax and enjoy life. It accommodates up to 2 guests, so it is a great option for couples.
The kitchen is a highlight as you have everything you need to cook. The fridge is filled with goods for your breakfast and you can store your own groceries to prepare your meals. You might be thinking you don’t want to take holidays and worry about cooking, but it is a convenience that adds value to the place. Believe me, it is a great help for lazy evenings when we rather enjoy the stars at the backyard than drive around looking for a restaurant.
The Hosts
Linda and David are lovely hosts, always welcoming and warm. They are ready to engage in conversations about all sorts of things. They also have an impressive repertoire of places to visit in the area. With a brief chat, they can fill you in with lots of ideas to enrich your holidays.
If you are a more private person, you will have the space you need. In the end, you will feel comfortable either you want to socialise at the verandah with a glass of wine or just to use the place as a base to your daily adventures.
Getting Around
The location is perfect as you can drive in any direction and find good stuff around you. If by any chance you get tired of the fabulous ocean view, you can just drive around to discover all the beauty of Sunshine Coast countryside. Not that I would someday be tired of the coast, but I also love to walk around, go to small shops in the neighbourhood, and have a little chat with locals. A little escape from the tourist route to immerse in the local lifestyle is a special part of our trips. It is relaxing, enriching, and we can learn a lot about life by talking with people who live outside of our bubbles.
To make things easier, here is a list of a few places you can visit and the time you would spend to get there driving from Cooroy:
- Eumundi Markets (the best markets I have ever visited in Australia): 9 minutes
- Tewantin (Noosa suburb with adorable river views and access to Noosa North Shore): 15 minutes
- Noosaville (nice restaurants and a convenient shopping centre): 16 minutes
- Noosa Heads (access to Noosa National Park): 20-25 minutes
- Sunrise Beach (access to Nossa National Park): 25 minutes
- Boreen Point (access to Noosa Everglades, it is a must if you enjoy kayaking): 25 minutes
- Maroochydore (place of beautiful parks and also the location of the Sunshine Coast Airport): 25 minutes
And the list never stops growing – we even took a day trip to Brisbane. Bruce Highway is just around de corner so you can easily move to anywhere. We are not the kind of traveller that spends the whole time going to the same places as we get easily bored. If you are also an explorer, this is a good spot to stay in Sunshine Coast. Obviously, this is not a problem if you like to stick to the comfort of your usual routes, though. We also have an article with suggestions of things to do in Noosa in case you need more inspiration.

It is really worth. It’s not only about the view, but a whole sensory experience. Feeling the fresh grass between your toes, listening to the birds waking up… you’re right, a nice cup of coffee it’s the icing on the cake =)
